chrysler newark assembly, newark, delaware, route 896. i spent 11 years here as an assembler. started off in material as a stock checker, then to paint shop, trim line and finally on chassis. i left in 2000 to work as a graphic designer and never looked back. assembly work was honest work but monotonous at best. i can't say i really miss being on my feet for 10-12 hours a day and waiting for a horn to blow so i could take a leak. the University of Delaware supposedly bought the property and it is set to be demolished. The factory opened in 1951 as a tank plant. Some of the cars i helped assemble included Plymouth Reliant, Chrysler LeBaron, Dodge Spirit, Plymouth Acclaim, Chrysler Concorde, Dodge Intrepid, Dodge Durango.
