cornfu > day 167: "doodle". working up some loose sketches to warm up for an illustration i have to do of a coworker. relaxing. an easy, lazy shot for tonight.
cornfu > day 166: "improvise". need a city for your legos? draw one. the funny part is that as i looked at the store fronts i realized the apples don't fall far from the tree! you have walmart... a gun shop... acme... and the po chasing a guy on a 4-wheeler! what? no comic book shop?

today my son turned 7 and legos were the gift of choice. i came home from a strange, tough day at work to see this refreshing scene. takes me to a safe place!
cornfu > day 165: "monkey on my back". weekends fly by anymore. as we were stamping this weekend "complete" em and i took advantage of a cool sky after a day of storms. we took about 30 photos to get something half decent. about half the shots were her poking me in the eyes. had the gear laying on the ground with a flash diffused and angled up. used a remote to trigger the shot.
cornfu > day 164: today we scored a bushel of number 1 crabs. i attempted a few photos of them in the basket but was in fear of my toes as a half dozen escaped and were on the offensive. they put up a brave fight but all ended up in the steaming pot. we do this once or twice a summer and it is a great time. eventually i will get my father-in-law's secret recipe for cooking crabs. in the meantime i get the unglamorous, gory job of cleaning the crabs.
cornfu > day 163 - taken after a massive downpour. the sky was cool looking so we rushed a quick setup. bounced a flash off of a white board at a slight angle upward.
cornfu > day 162: "guitar hero". i was proud to see my son actually practicing his guitar without me threatening to pull his lessons. the tatts were added as part of a tutorial i was working through tonight. if he actually had tattoos they would be storm troopers, bugs and giant robots!
cornfu > day 161: "5 alive". the kids named my kitten "5". 5 is an 8-week old nut job. this fuzz ball is non-stop stalking and jumping and running. i was working on a sketch for a freelance gig and she decided it was a good time to attack me. so 5 is my daily shot for this mellow, rainy wednesday.
cornfu > day 160 . messing with bouncing a flash off the wall to get some dramatic lighting. the cloudy background (sky snagged from a shot i took in philly last year) was composited in an attempt to make the shot a bit more dramatic. not sure if i am digging the attempt. all part of the learning process i suppose.
cornfu > day 159: "for humans only". today i watched a cool trailer for "district 9" directed by Neill Blomkamp and got inspired to do some composite work using signage from the movie. i worked up some fake signs in illustrator, dropped them into photoshop, rasterized the layer and did a little brushwork to distress the additions. the photo was taken at a now-vacant warehouse in the pureland complex off of exit 10 from 295. the trailer can be seen at http://www.d-9.com.
