cornfu > day 320: upon arriving at home this evening i was quite impressed with my oldest son's handiwork. we bought him some clay for Christmas and he got his "sculpt" on and created these 4 characters! i just had to make this the daily photo!
cornfu > day 319: "dr who". my family and i are dr. who fans! my daughter was devastated that this was the last season for david tennant as dr. who. she spent the better part of yesterday glued to bbc america watching reruns of last season. so i sketched out a quick drawing of the doctor for her. i did the coloring in photoshop post sketch and photo. basically i created a new layer, set the layer to multiply and then started painting with the brush. i varied brush size and opacity to get a sloppy water color look. i am still battling a cold so rushed both the sketch and the coloring.
cornfu > day 318: "infected". got a ripping cold. thought i could avoid it but the 6 hour drive in a car full of hacking kids did me in. i got about 5 minutes into a photo setup this evening and decided to go lazy and bail after a few shots. i was sitting in myself to get the lighting right (the kids can't seem to pull themselves away from guitar hero). so tonight is another lame SP but it at least it isn't a zombie shot (though i feel like one tonight). heading for a hot cup of earl grey and an early lights out.

P.S. thanks for all the kind comments on yesterday's photo. it made my son's day.
cornfu > day 317: i attempted to get equal exposure on the background and subject by setting exposure for the sky and hitting the subject with an off camera flash. unfortunately, i was late taking the photo and didn't have the right available light. so i went in a totally different direction. for the look of this shot i was inspired by foofighter's song "everlong" due to hearing it quite often thanks my kids playing guitar hero! the look of the video is great and has a few sequences that are a bit harsh in contrast/saturation. the video was based on the movie "evil dead 2".
cornfu > day 316: "what lies ahead". happy new year's eve!
cornfu > Day 315: "art on the edge". passed through richmond, va on I-95 today heading home after visiting my parents for a few days. i REALLY wanted to divert into downtown richmond and snag some urban shots but we were on a mission to get home before DC/Baltimore traffic. from what i could see from 95, richmond seems to be in an economic decline. there is a lot of urban decay there. i spotted a few new tags since the last time we made the trip. one such tag is shown above. graffiti is a welcomed, colorful addition to the current bleak vibe of the area.

i masked and bumped the color of the graffiti (in photoshop) while pushing back the rest of the scene. i also used a slight vignette (in lightroom) to push focus on the center.
cornfu > day 314: "it looks how i imagined". i went for a quick drive around mebane to see what i could spot for a daily. i chickened out on a shot of a massive junkyard due to the fact that the owner has been fined multiple times and might not take kindly to a dork sticking a big lens his way. i did happen upon a gorgeous area of farm and cattle pastures and had to take a few pics. this is how i imagined this part of the country would look. like any other state there are ugly spots and then there are beautiful areas. i found this to be serene and classic country!
cornfu > day 313: "day dreamer". taken at agape baptist church in mebane, nc.
cornfu > day 312: "carrier". started reading "world war z" today. so once again i am inspired by cheap zombie literature. not sure how the "virus" got started but rats are a great carrier of all sorts of fun diseases! i have limited lighting at the parents house so i tried to get creative with the flash. i bounced it off a wall to the right while positioning the toy partially within a nook to block some of the bounce. it worked out fairly well. tomorrow i will get more serious and snag some photos of mebane, nc... something normal.
